Coaching major college basketball is a whirlwind. Just ask St. Ambrose alum Robin Pingeton. Pingeton transitioned from head women's basketball coach at Illinois State University to head coach at the University of Missouri within the span of a week. On the day of the move, she said goodbye to her Redbird team and hello to her new Tigers within six hours.
For the past 13 years the St. Ambrose University Student Physical Therapy Organization (SPTO) has been hosting a sand-volleyball tournament called Spike for the Health of it. It is used as one of their primary fundraisers. Dr. John Barr, professor in the physical therapy department and the faculty advisor for SPTO, says the event helps the program in many ways.
The Fighting Bees were already proud to be hosting the 2010 NAIA Men's National Invitational Tournament at SAU, especially after earning their spot in the tournament with an impressive conference tournament victory over the rival Cardinal Stritch Wolves. Add to that the record-setting fan support throughout the week, and they couldn't get much happier.
Although, the SAU men's golf team didn't finish where they would have liked to at the end of the conference season. There is still a chance for the Fighting Bees to be better than just conference champs. The men's golf team finished just seven strokes short of earning their 17th conference championship.
This year was the beginning of the three-day NFL Draft. And upon further review, that's about two days too long. Why does the NFL need three days to do a seven-round draft when MLB just went to a three-day draft and they have over 50 rounds? Seems a little crazy to me.
Miguel Calvillo grew up playing soccer in the U.S. He later picked up volleyball while living in Mexico. And while both volleyball and Spanish may have seemed like second languages at first, volleyball soon took its place at the forefront of his young life.
The Queen Bees are once again atop the women's golf conference standings, winning the conference tournament by 28 strokes over second place Viterbo. This marks the eighth straight conference title for women's golf at SAU, and this year's team once again proved that piquing at just the right moment is key to any big win.
