Some Iowa City residents have already noticed a difference in the dining atmosphere as restaurants are now smoke-free under the statewide smoking ban in most public places. Some are happy about the change, some are quitting the habit, and some are crying out at the political injustice of it all.

QUINCY (AP) - As floodwaters slowly recede in some Illinois counties along the Mississippi River, they can't move fast enough for officials keeping a weary eye on damaged crops and strained levees.

No homes or businesses had been lost by Tuesday along the 54-mile Sny levee south of Quincy, but seepage damaged already-planted crops and has kept farmers from planting more, officials said.

Nate Kaeding likes to think of himself as a down-to-Earth guy.



Easier said than done for the Coralville native/turned NFL star when one mulls over his résumé.



He was All-State and All-Conference in football at Iowa City West High, where he holds a handful of state records that still stand today. He owns five Hawkeye football records and is Iowa and the Big Ten Conference's all-time leading scorer.

A Beardstown man was pronounced dead on the scene 8:50 PM last Saturday at the Macomb Raceway when he was trapped inside his burning car.

According to authorities, Kevin Lyles, 35 of Beardstown was racing a passenger car that he converted into a race car when he hit a tractor tire causing his vehicle to overturn and burst into flames.

NEW YORK (AP) - City hospital officials agreed in court Tuesday to implement reforms at a psychiatric ward where surveillance footage showed a woman falling from her chair, writhing on the floor and dying as workers failed to help for more than an hour.



Esmin Green, 49, had been waiting in the emergency room for nearly 24 hours when she toppled from her seat at 5:32 a.m. on June 19, falling face down on the floor.
